Our next port of call was Juneau, the capitol and third largest city in Alaska. Although I was warned not to by Jean Scott my wife and I signed up for two excursions. The first was a glacier float trip. Although portrayed as an exciting river rafting trip it was actually very slow and thus covered only a short distance. The crew was very nice and organized but I felt it was overpriced at $115. Unknown to me until after I purchased the tickets I could have paid $5 for a bus ticket to the Mendenhall Glacier visitor center, which is much closer to the glacier than the float trip got. The second excursion was a salmon bake, which I'm told is an Alaska tradition. This was much nicer. We were driven to a spot in the woods on the edge of town and treated to all the salmon and other food we could eat. A local woman sang and played the guitar. A local couple was also having a wedding reception there, which goes to show it isn't just for tourists. The food was great, one of the two best meals the entire trip.
This picture is one of a waterfall near the salmon bake.

Here is the downtown touristy area of Juneau.

Juneau has lots of steps. After climbing a random set of least 100 steps we arrived at this bridge.

This is the famous Red Dog Saloon, which was often mentioned in tourist literature, but I am not sure what is so famous about it.
